The Roosevelt Doctrine

This cartoon is about the Panama Canal. The message of the cartoon is that Roosevelt is going to build the canal without Columbia’s permission. This is unacceptable because it's not right to do something to a countries territory without their permission. Another view is that Roosevelt is getting ready to fight the Columbians for the construction of the canal. The techniques used were exaggeration, symbolism, and labeling. The sickle of Roosevelt was the exaggeration of the cartoon. The elephant represents the Republican Party. The author labels Panama. This does not supports my view on imperialism because the U.S. should have made a deal with Columbia to build the canal.
