The Annexation of Hawaii

This political cartoon is about the annexation of Hawaii. The message of this cartoon is that the United States is collecting all the territories surrounding the U.S. This was good because the country needs to expand its borders. Another person might say that Great Britain wanted to get new territories but the U.S. is taking them all. Another way to see this issue is that the U.S. is trying to get as many territories as possible.The techniques that the author uses is labeling and symbolism. The fruit is labeled as different territories. The man on the bench symbolizes the United States. The man in the background is Great Britain. This agrees with my view of imperialism because the U.S. needed to expand its territories.
