The Policeman of the Western Hemisphere
This cartoon is about the Roosevelt Corollary. The message of the cartoon is that Roosevelt is the policeman of the Western Hemisphere. Another view of the political cartoon was that there were different countries trying to expand their power to the Western Hemisphere, but Roosevelt was blocking their path. The techniques used by the author were exaggeration, labeling, and symbolism. An example of exaggeration in the cartoon was the size of Roosevelt. The author made Roosevelt look larger the other people because he is trying to emphasize his power. Symbolism in the cartoon was using the people around Roosevelt to stand for other countries. An example of labeling in the cartoon was the bat that says the "New Diplomacy". The cartoon agrees with my view of imperialism because the U.S. has to protect itself and its territories from other countries.
